Models

For maps using probabilistic or scenario-based modeling methods, there are a variety of empirical and physical models used to assess volcanic hazards. The following models have been used on at least one map in the database. The most common models used on volcanic hazard maps are the energy cone or line empirical model (14% of maps; Heim 1932; Sheridan 1979; Sheridan & Malin 1983); LAHARZ (8% of maps; Iverson et al. 1998; Schilling 1998; Schilling 2014); and Tephra2 (3% of maps; Bonadonna et al. 2005).
